Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team Located at Colchester hospital, working in the highly specialised Vascular Access service.
We are looking for an individual with a keen interest in Vascular Access and a passion for patient centred care.
You will be expected to be competent in venepuncture and cannulation.
Training will be provided for the successful candidate in the insertion, care and maintenance and removal of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), midlines and ultrasound guided longer dwell cannulas and blood draws.
Main duties of the job

To undertake Vascular Access procedures in accordance with trust policies and guidelines. Ensuring high standards of evidence based care.

To communicate with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, treatment and care.

To supervise clinicians, students, and any other staff, visiting the Vascular Access Service, or learning Vascular Access Procedures.

To ensure accurate and comprehensive records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation.

To ensure that the staff have knowledge, skills and resources to carry out the care delegated to them

- Proven experience as a qualified practitioner in an acute care setting.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in other fields of nursing
- Involved in change management
Qualifications

- RGN or Dip. HE, BSc Operating Department Practice
- Current registration of professional body
Desirable criteria
- Degree level qualifications. Willing to work towards a degree
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Maintenance of clinical knowledge & skill
- Understands the principles for agenda for change and be experienced in the KSF appraisal process.
- Understanding of evidence based practice.
- Understanding of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to Vascular Access.
- Ability to venepuncture and cannulate
