Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our cancer team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic chemotherapy nurse to join the team on the Williams Day Unit.

For this role you will need to have current NMC Nursing registration, currently administering Chemotherapy and have completed SACT passport, which is active. 

 

As a pivotal member of the team you will assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in the delivery of a high quality chemotherapy service across the Trust. The Chemotherapy Nurse will be a highly visible presence across the speciality, working to ensure the highest standards of care, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence and continuously improving experiences for patients, families and carers.

You should have excellent communication skills, leadership, management and interpersonal skills to ensure that the chemotherapy service in the Trust is both safe and effective.

The patient experience will be a priority for you with a strong emphasis on compassion and dignity. You will be supported by an experienced and committed management team.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager for Chemotherapy, Systemic anti Cancer Treatments Lead, Consultant Lead for Chemotherapy, Acute Oncology Service and the PS&Q Matron for Cancer Services to ensure optimum care is delivered to our patients.

For this role you will need to have current NMC Nursing registration, currently administering Chemotherapy and have completed SACT passport, which is active. 

Main duties of the job: 

Triaging, assessing patients side effects from their chemotherapy regime to ensure they are fit for treatment.  

Delivering SACT to Oncology and Haematology patients.

Administering non - SACT treatments / procedures in line with Trust policy's.  

Maintaining health and safety of the Unit while SACT is being administered. 

Mentoring and supporting junior staff on the Unit and acting as a role models at all times. 

Dealing with SACT emergencies that may occur, eg infusion related reactions & extravasations.

Working as shift leader, and problem shooting problems answering patients queries through out the day.  

In addition you will be required to demonstrate a flexible approach to work.
