Job overview

The Solutions Developer function is to be responsible for the technical design, technical documentation, software development, implementation, maintenance, technical support and problem resolution for all in-house developments and maintenance of integration and interoperability services at PAHT. 

This role requires an exceptionally high level of technical expertise. The post holder is expected to have the skill to routinely analyse and solve highly complex technical problems without the need to call upon others for advice, whilst providing technical guidance and sharing knowledge with other in-house software developers. 

 The post holder must be capable of taking the lead in developing software components for a variety of applications and ensuring they are rigorously built and tested in accordance with software industry best practice standards.

The post holder will ensure that new or replacement systems properly integrate with other Trust and/or partner systems and the service is maintained and supported appropriately.

Main duties of the job

  • Estimate the resource, time and skills required to complete development tasks.
  • Record required and completed effort against assigned tasks daily using a suitable Application Lifecycle Development Tool to track progress.
  • Collaborate with other team members to complete work tasks identified during a development phase.
  • Develop suitable test plans and supporting test data to prove the correct operation of code during unit testing.
  • Assist with the maintenance of existing systems e.g., integration engine, when required.
  • Keep business and technical skills up to date by attending training courses and seminars.
  • Resolve problems/faults to the satisfaction of the Design and Development Manager.
  • Prepare well-written technical documentation to ensure software applications are well understood and maintainable.
  • The post holder must be able to demonstrate excellent keyboard skills, mouse, or other skills to enable them to develop software using an integrated development environment

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Development or equivalent qualifications, knowledge, or experience.
  • Foundation qualification in an agile development methodology (for example the BCS Foundation Agile) or equivalent knowledge or experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced qualification in an agile development methodology (for example the Professional Scrum master qualification) or equivalent knowledge or experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of software development in a formal development environment
  • Able to learn new technologies and IT systems quickly through both self-study and professional courses.
  • Ability and judgement to lead software development projects according to well defined industry good practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience developing software for Clinical Information or Healthcare systems.
  • Industry standard programming and development tools including web platform experience.

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge in advanced principles of object-oriented design
  • Able to establish good working relationships with people at all levels.
Desirable criteria
  • Understands the Data Protection Act and its implications for the holding of patient information and NHS Information flows / services.
