Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who will assist the Orthopaedic Surgeons whilst rotating to the various specialities of Orthopaedics.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to sit for FRCS (Orthopaedics) during their time here. The Trust has an excellent success rate in this. The post holder will be based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) in Harlow but will also be expected to travel to satellite sites based at Epping and Bishops Stortford. The successful candidate will report directly to a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in and undertake trauma sessions and attend sessions in the fracture clinic to support this service. In addition, the individual will have the opportunity to undertake two elective inpatient orthopaedic sessions per week.
The post carries an on call commitment (1:12 rota weekdays and a 1:12 rota for weekends). A banding supplement will be paid for out of hour’s commitment. This rota is currently banded as a 1B.
Main duties of the job
To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient Trauma & Orthopaedic Service.
· To share responsibility with the Specialist Registrars and Trust Registrars/ Clinical Fellows for providing evidence-based standards of care for all inpatients and outpatients.
· To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out by the Health Care commission, East of England Health Authority and local Primary Care Trusts.
· To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners and all other health care agencies.
· To give advice, support and training to all junior medical staff, having due regard for the changes initiated by the Calman Report.
· To encourage and foster the audit process at clinical, managerial and medical levels and to take part in regional audit in support of evidence-based medicine.
1. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her care, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
2. Leadership and proper functioning of the services in his/her charge in line with agreed policies within the Trust.
