Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for full time , Band 7 Antenatal Clinic Lead Midwife on fixed term/secondment contract until 31st July 2027.
The clinic is a busy area providing consultant led care to a diverse population. The post holder will need to have good organisational skills and be able to communicate well within a multidisciplinary team which
includes, inpatient and outpatient midwifery teams, obstetric, screening, specialist and operational teams.
The clinic has maternal medicine, fetal medicine, diabetic, preterm prevention and perinatal mental health specialist clinics and an Antenatal Day Unit that is open 7 days a week. As the Lead Midwife you will be overseeing the running of the clinic and driving Quality Improvements to improve the experiences of service users and staff and to ensure a safe and efficient service.
Main duties of the job
- Practices with due attention to the Midwives Rules and Standards and the Code of Professional Conduct
- Assesses, plans and implements antenatal care to women with low and high risk pregnancies, having regard to the needs and wishes of the woman and her family.
- Liaises with and advises members of the multi-disciplinary team on the individual needs of women in her care.
- Monitors the antenatal welfare and condition of the fetus by appropriate means.
- Competent to deliver the flu and Pertussis programme in maternity.
- Maintains accurate records of clinical observations and progress of pregnacy.
- Co-ordinates the care of women with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective and appropriate communication and safe care.
- Has the skill, knowledge and ability to provide care for women during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period, both in the hospital and community setting.
- As a senior midwife, is able to advise and support women with psychological, emotional and sensitive issues often in difficult and complex circumstances.
- Recognises complications and deals with clinical problems in a safe and appropriate manner and can provide emergency care to mother and/or baby whilst awaiting medical assistance including management of maternal haemorrhage, intravenous cannulation and infant and adult resuscitation.
- Conducts exposure prone procedures with due care and attention for safety of the patient and self. For example: episiotomy and suturing of the perineum.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- ENB997 or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.
- Degree in Midwifery Practice
- Child protection training level 3
- Attendance at leadership course
Desirable criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Education to diploma level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven post registration experiences as clinical midwife.
- Extensive antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal clinical practice.
- Evidence of advanced decision making skills.
- Previous ward management experience.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working as Band 7 midwife.
- Experience in report writing.
- Budget monitoring skills.
- Antenatal and Newborn Screening experience
