Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Nutrition Support Nurse to join our Nutrition team at Ipswich Hospital, - 30 hours per week, Fixed Term/Secondment until the 30th September 2026.
The post is ideal for an experienced nurse wanting to consolidate their knowledge and skills in nutrition support. You will work alongside the Band 7 Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist. If you are motivated and committed to providing high quality patient care and maintaining high standards then this could be a great opportunity for you.
Ideally you would have experience of working autonomously and be able to demonstrate their ability to prioritise workload, as well as having excellent interpersonal skills. They will have knowledge and a keen interest in nutrition and nutrition support. Excellent communication, organisational and team working skills are essential.
Nutrition Nurses are key members of the Nutrition Support Team, managing parenteral nutrition and complex enteral nutrition, arranging tube insertion including aftercare. The role also includes assessment of gastrostomy referrals and acts as the link between community and the hospital for patients with gastrostomy tubes.
Training and development will be supported through annual appraisal and clinical supervision.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will provide a specialist and comprehensive nursing service within a multi-professional framework for patients requiring nutrition support. You will also provide specialist advice, support and education to all relevant staff within the Trust on nursing aspects of nutrition support promoting high quality, evidence based practice.
The team holds twice-weekly multi-professional ward rounds lead by the Consultant Gastroenterologist – Lead clinician for Nutrition patient safety agenda and continually work to improve standards in nutritional care across the Trust.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent knowledge of nutrition and nutritional support
- Understanding and ability to apply clinical governance principles to practice.
- Knowledge and understanding of evidence based practice.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of gastroenterology and surgical procedures
- Knowledge of research and audit process
- Good understanding of current issues relating to the NHS
