Job overview
The EPR Infrastructure Manager will lead the team responsible for the EPR estates maintenance and support, ensuring optimal performance and availability of the EPR system.
This role involves strategic planning, team management, and collaboration across technical and application teams to maintain a robust infrastructure that aligns with organisational objectives.
This role is critical for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of the server estate supporting the EPR system. The EPR Infrastructure Manager will play a key role in managing the technical aspects of the EPR estate contributing significantly to the Trust's healthcare initiatives.
Main duties of the job
- Lead and manage the team responsible for server estate deployment, maintenance, and support within the EPR Infrastructure unit.
- Oversee the design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of server and database environments supporting EPR applications, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Collaborate with the BI team and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration between the database and server infrastructures.
- Develop and implement server and database deployment strategies in alignment with trust growth plans and project initiatives.
- Lead the team on proactively monitoring server and database environments, identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks and potential issues to maintain optimal system performance.
- Engage in capacity planning exercises to ensure server and database resources meet the Trust's requirements and facilitate scalability.
- Lead disaster recovery planning and failover/fallback exercises for the Epic infrastructure, ensuring timely recovery in case of failures and minimizing data loss.
- Collaborate with vendors, technical teams, and end-users to troubleshoot Epic Infrastructure incidents and problems, and implement solutions.
- Define, document, and enforce server and database support policies, guidelines, and procedures, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and ITIL standards.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven previous experience as a manager, a team leader or a very senior role
- Experience of managing 24/7 x 365 critical systems to a high level
- Proven experience of workload planning and delivery of key targets within a service environment.
- Development and documentation of standard documents and operating procedures
- Experience of facilitating change in practice to improve services
- Experience of structured change management
Desirable criteria
- Handling complex organisational issues and constraints.
- Significant experience of Server estate administration and design in the delivery of complex systems
- •Responsibility for a budget
- Experience of the IT security and other relevant areas of NHS Information Governance and the IG Toolkit requirements
- Experience of fostering knowledge of complex systems and information for technical teams for on-going support purposes
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification or significant experience of working at degree level
Desirable criteria
- Management /leadership qualification or equivalent knowledge at post graduate level
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Epic Certification in appropriate modules
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent technical knowledge and practical experience of server virtualisation technologies
- Understanding of ITIL processes
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in terms of documentation and communicating technical information to infrastructure teams for support purposes
- Ability to analyse & interpret highly complex information
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of NHS Information Standards and their application in technical infrastructure
- Evidence of managing change in a technical environment and its impact upon users and our patients
- Advanced IT skills (MS Office applications)
