The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, is seeking dedicated consultants to join our dynamic urology team. As a Consultant Urologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, you will be working with cutting-edge technology in a collaborative and supportive setting. You will have the opportunity to lead and develop services, contribute to clinical research, and mentor the next generation of urologists.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to have broad experience of Urology Surgery with the ability and drive to contribute to the further development of the expertise in this area. The appointee will be proficient in all aspects of Urology Surgery. You will also be expected to fully participate in and support the Urology Surgery on-call rota. The successful applicants will also play an important part in the teaching and mentoring of our trainee doctors.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT or CESR (CP). Date to be within 6 months of interview
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate training experience. Undergraduate teaching experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within urology.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Expertise in core urology
  • Ability to organise and manage out-patient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of urology service.
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
  • Experience of supervising Foundation doctors and Specialty trainees.
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship training
  • Experience in Urology emergencies
  • Ability to effectively manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team
