EPUT is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join Old Age Functional Intensive and Response Support Team (FIRST) based at Sankey House, Pitsea. The team provides services mainly to the functional older adult patients above the age of 70, referred from Basildon, Pitsea, Brentwood and Thurrock areas for mental health disorders.

The Dementia Intensive Support Team (DIST) in this locality is being run by the neighbouring Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the assessment and management of functional older adult patients, 70 years and above experiencing crisis in the catchment area. FIRST would accept referral via the phone and the referrer needs to have seen the patient face to face within 24 hours of the referral being made and the patient must have given their consent for the referral. The referral line is managed by a CPN- shift coordinator 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

 

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

  • Provide clinical leadership and be the Responsible Clinician for the General Adult patients referred to the Liaison team.
  • Review new patients in a timely manner and oversee the clinical management of patients on the wards.
  • Will be available for timely reviews and meetings and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Carry out duties as Responsible Clinician, including Mental Health Act assessments, preparation of tribunal reports and giving oral evidence at manager’s hearings and mental health review tribunals(if required).
  • Be actively involved in supporting staff development and in effecting continual service improvement.
  • Provide clinical supervision to the trainees and SAS doctors.
  • Clinical Audit: The post holder will participate in audit to ensure the continuous improvement of the service.
  • .The post holder will only be expected to provide cover for holidays and absences to colleagues with mutual consultation and  agreement.

Qualifications

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant.
  • Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych
  • On the Specialist Register with qualifications Older Adult/General Adult/Dual trainee.
  • Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent.

Eligibility

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

Clinical skills, knowledge and experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
