Job overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate palliative care nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration and a strong understanding of hospice care to join our team. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to combine clinical practice with education and staff development.
You will be based predominantly on our inpatient unit, maintaining your clinical expertise by working at least one shift per week, while dedicating the remainder of your time to supporting, coaching, and developing colleagues. Through hands-on guidance, training delivery, and sharing best practice, you will play a key role in strengthening the skills and confidence of our workforce.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about learning and development, and who thrives on supporting others to grow. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to deliver high-quality training and professional development, ensuring staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide exceptional, compassionate care to our patients.
We regret that the charity is unable to offer any sponsorship opportunities.
Main duties of the job
You will act as a role model for excellent clinical practice, bringing the experience and confidence to quickly integrate into our hospice inpatient unit.
Alongside maintaining high standards of care, you will provide hands-on educational support within the flow of work to our adult services nursing workforce, including both formal competency assessments and informal, on-the-job learning.
You will also support the community team, either on-site or within patients’ homes, helping to meet their development needs. The role includes contributing to the development of training programmes and educational resources, working within our clinical governance framework, and delivering training across the wider organisation.
In addition, you will act as a mentor for nursing staff and a key point of contact for student nurses and Allied Health Professionals, while proactively keeping up to date with current best practice to ensure the highest standards of care are consistently achieved.
Working for our organisation
Havens Hospices provides specialist care and support for people of all ages who are living with incurable conditions and their families. Our specialist team offers a wide range of care and support options for patients and their loved ones, based on their needs and wishes. This can be in the comfort of their own home, in the hospices – Fair Havens for adults or Little Havens for children - or a combination.
Working at Havens Hospices allows you to give the gift of time to families, creating memories. Although you may not be giving direct care to our patients, your contribution will have an immediate effect on our care services.
In return for your expertise and passion, you will receive a competitive salary package, and most of all, by making the most of every day you work at Havens Hospices you’ll be helping us continue ‘Making every day count’ for those who need us most.
At Havens Hospices we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our employees and patients and expect all colleagues to share this commitment.
We value diversity and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
