Job overview

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Deputy Ward manager - Cardiac and Medical Day Stay.

 Working as an integral member of the ward team, you will expand, develop and utilise clinical, educational, research and leadership skills to enhance and optimise clinical practice within the Cath labs.

It is envisaged that the post holder will act as a change agent, participating in the development and implementation of innovative and new ways of working within the cardiac angiography and device service.

You will practice with increased professional autonomy and assume greater responsibility for decision making within the clinical setting, supported by agreed integrated care pathways (ICPs), protocols.

Main duties of the job

  • Co-ordinate and lead a team .
  • Liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team and participate in team decisions.
  • To communicate with staff, patients and relatives, to promote and maintain understanding and progress of treatment.
  • Ensure stock levels are maintained.
  • To identify professional education needs in the Day Stay/Cath labs, through training needs analysis and competency-based assessments.
    Report and investigate accidents/incidents and complaints and write reports.
  • To contribute to the collection and utilisation of a range of clinical data in order to measure performance targets.
  • Take a lead in the assessment and management of patients admitted to catheter labs from the Day Stay and Inpatient wards.
  • To be a proficient and autonomous scrub and circulating nurse  being competent in angiography and pacing procedures.
  • Correctly analyse ECG’s, take appropriate action to determine ongoing management,  along with providing an advanced nursing role in the care of patients, ensuring evidence-based practice is implemented.
  • Competent in the administration of IV and oral drugs. To safely manage patients undergoing moderate sedation in the cardiac catheter labs and the recovery of these patients in the Day Stay.
  • To initiate investigations and interpret results, and discharging patients, supported with robust protocols and ICPs and liaising with the Cardiology Consultant/team.
