Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us here at Mid and south Essex Foundation Trust  as our Ward administrator/housekeeper.

You will support the provision of the meal service, ensuring meals are delivered to patients in a timely manner; ensuring special dietary requirements are communicated. 

Undertake discharge cleaning of the patient’s bed space, chairs, lockers, cardiac monitoring equipment on all patients discharge 

To oversee the standard of cleaning service provided by the hospital contracted domestic, reporting problems to the Ward Manager or senior nurse in charge. 

Ensure that all oxygen and suction units by each bed are checked on a daily basis, are single use, clean, tidy and in good working order. 

Ensure the correct level of stock for linen is available. Ensure clean utility/clinical store is kept tidy and restocked. 

Ensure faulty/broken/defective equipment is reported to the trust helpdesk or appropriate person or team. 

Ensure clinical areas are cleaned and tidied in partnership with the ward domestic. Deliver to the onsite laboratory blood and microbiology samples 

Respond to patient queries, escalating clinical questions to nursing staff.

Main duties of the job

Assist the nursing team to maintain safety of the environment, for example checking emergency buzzers are working, liasing with the medical equipment library to repair any defective medical equipment, checking oxygen supplies are sufficient and in date and maintaining stock supplies of medical consumables.

You will supporting the Ward Administrator with Cardiac and Medical Day Stay receptionist duties and undertaking the role in their absence this includes :

Take telephone calls and refer to appropriate personnel.

Respond to queries from GP's  patients, their relatives and ensure they are informed of patient’s accurate collection time. 

Prepare notes for all procedures prior to admission ensuring pathways are present. 

Admit and discharge patients as per Medway pathway. Attendance at relevant meetings including Ward clerk meetings. Take minutes at relevant meetings for Ward Manager.

Support ward managers with general administrative tasks, for example typing and sending letters.
