JOB TITLE:  BANK Specialist  Paediatric Dietitian

RESPONSIBLE TO: Temporary Staffing Management

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head of Temporary Staffing

Main duties of the job

To act as a source of expertise and provide a nutrition and dietetic service into the Paediatric caseload at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

 

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner in providing dietetic assessment, treatment and management to their own designated caseload of patients and to maintain up to date dietetic records. They will use evidence based principles and current best practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate dietetic interventions.

 

The post will cover both inpatients and outpatients. Clinical areas will include general paediatrics and diabetes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To communicate complex (occasionally sensitive) information to patients, carers and other health care professionals. Using age –appropriate language, communication techniques and resources to assist in making complex decisions and come to terms with diagnosis.

 

  • To establish rapport and negotiate with children and young people and to gain their active participation in the development and progress of their individualised care plan, including setting of realistic goals using a variety of motivational interviewing techniques

 

  • To identify ways to overcome potential barriers to effective communication and understanding.

 

  • To Generate and maintain effective interactions with the MDT as well as primary care health, social care professionals and schools.

 

  • To be an ambassador for the service when attending internal and external meetings

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised degree or post graduate qualification in Human Nutrition & Dietetics
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BDA Paediatric Specialist Group and Paediatric Diabetes.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in an acute Trust
  • Previous experience working in Paediatrics and/or Diabetes
