As the Individual Giving Fundraising Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of our Individual Giving strategy, placing donors at the heart of everything you do.

With a strong focus on both acquisition and retention, you will design and implement engaging campaigns across a range of income streams, including Direct Mail, Regular Giving, Lottery, Legacy, and In-Memory giving, line managing a small team of Fundraising Officers.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will help to expand our digital fundraising efforts and ensure every supporter enjoys a consistent, meaningful experience. You will monitor performance, uphold compliance, and champion best practice in individual giving, driving long-term support and sustainable growth for our cause.

In this role, you will lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of a diverse range of individual giving fundraising activities, you will manage campaigns end-to-end—from shaping the proposition and signing off creative, to overseeing budgets and analysing performance to drive continual improvement.

Working closely with other Fundraising Managers, you will contribute to delivering the departmental strategy, meeting income targets, and managing budgets effectively.

You will also take the lead on key fundraising projects, promoting a collaborative culture both within the team and across departments.

A key aspect of the role involves partnering with the Marketing and Engagement teams to strengthen digital fundraising and donor acquisition strategies, ensuring a joined-up and impactful supporter journey.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To ensure that all individual giving fundraising activities are effectively planned, tracked and evaluated.
  • To be collectively responsible with other Fundraising Managers for progress against strategy, budgets and plans.
  • To proactively develop a culture of collaborative working in the department by effectively leading and managing a number of key fundraising projects.
  • To ensure an informed Direct Mail program is delivered, maximising income through effective data segmentation, use of emotive case studies, powerful propositions and asks and appropriate donor pathways.
  • To oversee and manage each appeal or direct mail, being responsible for proposition development, final copy and creative sign-off, as well as managing both expenditure and income budgets.
  • To oversee and ensure implementation of our Regular Giving programme, including the acquisition of new and the retention of existing donors.
  • To oversee and ensure implementation of our lottery strategy, working closely with internal colleagues and external management and canvassing agencies
  • To lead our strategy for legacy fundraising, integrating messaging into all fundraising pathways, growing and tracking enquiries and pledges
  • To oversee the core income stream of In-Memory giving, working with colleagues across the charity to integrate this with bereavement services, whilst always ensuring a supportive, gentle and compassionate approach is undertaken.
  • To work closely with the Marketing and Engagement team to develop digital fundraising capabilities to support the acquisition of new individual donors
  • To ensure individual donors are expertly and successfully stewarded, growing our donor retention by giving additional gifts or moving to other pathways.
  •  To work with other fundraising managers, particularly the Data and Insights Manager, to build and implement pathways for donors, securing continued support and an increase in lifetime value.
  • To work closely with Fundraising Managers and the Finance Team to understand, monitor and report on financial performance against budget.
  • To proactively stay up to date with sector trends, developments and insights.
  • To nurture a strong team ethic in the department, encouraging colleagues to work across income disciplines for the wider benefit of the department and to support continued professional development.
  • To ensure Fundraising maintains appropriate and up to date record systems in compliance with Data Protection, other relevant legislation, and requirements of financial and other systems of audit.
  • To attend internal and external meetings to represent Fundraising. 
  • To champion a positive culture and understanding of fundraising and of being a charity across the whole organisation.
  • Participate in appropriate internal and external educational programmes to ensure continued professional development in order to implement best practice across the department, as well as to ensure legal and ethical fundraising practices are followed.
  • Provide operational support for colleagues in both the Fundraising team and the wider directorate as required

Person specification

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in delivering Direct Mail appeals
  • Experience of at least one other Individual Giving income stream (DM, In-mem, Lottery, Legacy, Regular Giving, Digital, Individual donations)
  • Experience in developing propositions and asks
  • Knowledge of legacy fundraising
  • Experience of using data to inform decision making
  • Experience in developing and implementing donor pathways and/or stewardship plans
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), databases, other relevant software and systems, and the internet to an intermediate level
  • Ability to update and maintain records, databases, and other systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Experienced in leading and managing a small team
