To participate in the provision of the in-house FM services to a specified area within the Trust, which may include in-patient areas and retail outlets: The FM services comprises of the cleaning, catering, portering, bed making and laundering services, however some of these services are unit specific. Therefore sections of this job description may not be relevant to all staff and will be identified where appropriate.

You must be aware of the important part you play in maintaining the environment to an excellent standard.

You must also be aware that your work will involve working alongside patients and occasionally interacting with them as you carry out your duties outlined below.

You will be working as part of the Facilities Team and are expected to have a flexible approach to your duties.

You will be working as a valued member of the Estates & Facilities Management Team. 

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills as well as having a flexible attitude, please also see job description for competencies.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated team player to join an existing Estates & Facilities team to deliver Soft FM disciplines (Cleaning). 

Main duties of the job

We provide integrated care including mental health, learning disability, and social care and community services to culturally and economically diverse communities across Bedfordshire, Essex and Suffolk. We employ approximately 7,000 people and work with a wide range of partners 'Working to Improve Lives'. We are a responsive, innovative and dynamic Foundation Trust delivering leading edge health services in a constantly changing environment.

We work with a wide range of partner organisations to deliver care and support to people in their own homes and from a number of hospital and community based premises. We have many modern community based resource centres and community facilities to provide local services to local people where possible.

Unlike acute hospital services, Community Health Services, mental health and learning disability services are mainly provided in community settings with defined geographical localities. As a result we operate from various locations across Bedfordshire, Essex and Suffolk. The Estates & Facilities Department is responsible for delivering high quality and cost effective Estates and Facilities management services across Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will support the management of The Trust in Luton.

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The following duties will include:

To ensure that the ward(s) / areas you are assigned to are cleaned in accordance with the Work Schedule for those ward(s) / areas. This will include vacuuming floors; sweeping, scrubbing and mopping floors; high and low dusting; wiping over and polishing (where applicable) both vertical and horizontal surfaces, mirrors, chairs, bins, sani-bins; cleaning toilets, sinks, baths and showers; cleaning regeneration ovens, fridges, holding fridges, microwaves and others items in the kitchens; defrosting fridges on a regular basis; restocking consumables such as toilet tissue, handtowels, soap; descaling taps; and bins and replacing bin liners. (* Providing they have not been soiled with body fluids). 

We are  looking for individual (s) who can work part time hours are available across the working  week:

Monday to Friday 17:00 to 19:30 would consider early morning shifts

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of cleanliness and good hygeine practices
  • Understanding of the responsibilities relating to H&S at work
Desirable criteria
  • Basic understanding of infection control
  • Knowledge of manual handling

Skills/experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to read/write/converse in english
  • Demonstrate ability to work on own or in a team
  • Able to undertake general portering abilities
Desirable criteria
  • Similar previous experience
  • Basic use of computer packages - Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
