Bereavement Midwife

Band 6

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.

We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

Are you a compassionate and motivated midwife with a passion for providing exceptional, patient-centred care? Do you thrive in a supportive team environment and have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills?

We have an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Maternity Bereavement Team at Southend Hospital — a team recognised both locally and nationally for the outstanding support and care we provide.

We're looking for someone who is not only driven and empathetic but also eager to contribute to the continued growth and excellence of our service. If you're ready to make a meaningful difference during some of the most vulnerable moments in a family's journey, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

To support the Clinical specialist providing verbal and written information to bereaved families and to support women and their families who have experienced fetal loss and/or childbirth related difficulties

To provide support to midwifery and medical staff within the Directorate when caring for women experiencing a loss in pregnancy, stillbirth or early neonatal death.

To act as an educational resource nursing, midwifery staff and maternity care assistants on physical, psychological and administrative aspects of bereavement care. In addition, this role is to provide support and training for staff in bereavement related issues.

Working for our organisation

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
