Job overview

Senior Clinical Fellow – Vitreo-retinal (VR) Service | Southend Hospital

We are seeking a motivated Senior Clinical Fellow to join our well-established Vitreo-retinal (VR) service at Southend Hospital.

This role is ideally suited to candidates with general ophthalmology training and some experience in VR who are keen to further develop their clinical and surgical expertise in the management of vitreo-retinal conditions.

However, applicants without prior VR experience will be considered based on merit. You must demonstrate strong intraocular surgical skills, including the ability to perform independent cataract surgery and slit lamp retinal laser procedures.

Our VR service is a busy and expanding unit, performing over 500 vitrectomy procedures annually, offering excellent exposure to a wide range of complex cases. There are also opportunities to contribute to ongoing service development both locally and within the community.

While this post is included on the British & Eire Association of Vitreo-retinal Surgeons (BEAVRS) list of national fellowships, it is not currently recognised for subspecialty training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team and further enhance your skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.
