Job overview

Paediatric Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4–ST8) – Neptune Children’s Ward

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4–ST8) to join our dedicated and supportive team of 14 Consultants.

Based on Neptune Children’s Ward, you will work within a well-established general paediatric service caring for patients from birth to 16 years. The ward provides a diverse clinical experience, supporting children requiring emergency, elective, and high-dependency care.

The ward consists of 10 single side rooms, prioritised for patients requiring isolation, a six-bedded bay for general and acute admissions, and a four-cot nursery area. This varied setting offers excellent opportunities to develop and enhance your clinical skills across a wide range of paediatric conditions.

You will be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care while gaining valuable experience within a dynamic clinical environment.

This role is ideal for doctors seeking to further develop their paediatric expertise at senior level, with strong support for professional development and learning.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated clinicians with a commitment to delivering excellent care and working effectively within a team.

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively across the Trust in close co‑operation with medical, professional and managerial colleagues to deliver high‑quality patient care.

Participate in a shift‑based rota, working under the supervision and guidance of a nominated Consultant.

Maintain continuity of care wherever possible, adapting to service demands such as on‑take commitments when required.

Demonstrate effective leadership skills while recognising personal limitations and seeking senior advice and support appropriately.

Act as a key point of liaison between nursing staff, junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical colleagues.

Attend and actively contribute to ward rounds, ensuring clear communication and continuity in patient management.

Participate in operating theatre sessions in accordance with the agreed timetable and service requirements.

Attend and contribute to general and specialist outpatient, diagnostic and pre‑assessment clinics, supporting the wider patient pathway.

Working for our organisation

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
