Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team as a Cancer Patient Navigator.
You will support the Cancer Tumor Site Teams to facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey, by ensuring that the cancer pathways are coordinated, streamlined and all processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.
The role will have a primary base at Southend hospital site and will provide cross-cover within the tumor site teams to ensure a consistent and effective support for all cancer sub specialties is maintained at all times. This role may include hybrid working.
The role of the cancer patient navigator is to provide specialist knowledge for the pathway of cancer patients across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The role will facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey by ensuring that the pathway is coordinated, streamlined and all processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.

Main duties of the job
If successful you will work directly and indirectly with patients and their carers, and be responsible for capturing information about patients, ensuring up-to-date relevant information is recorded on the patient record and Trust systems.
You will have a good knowledge and understanding of patient complete pathways. As a key requirement of this role, the post holder will have excellent communication and organisational skills, together with a high attention to detail and levels of accuracy.
The role will support and work within the clinical nurse teams to support whilst directly reporting to the cancer business partners in order to transform the current processes.
The role will have a primary base at one of the three hospitals and will provide cross-cover within the tumour site teams to ensure a consistent and effective support for all cancer sub specialities is maintained at all times.

- Good level of education e.g. A-Level/NVQ Level 3 or relevant experience

- Cancer Waiting Time Knowledge
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of specialist functional and medical terms demonstrated in supporting information
- Previous administrative experience within a healthcare setting
- Experience of applying hospital administration systems
- Knowledge and understanding of key access targets i.e. 31 day and 62 day cancer
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working with data input
- Supporting information demonstrates understanding purpose of PTL's
