Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

Governance Facilitator – Southend Governance Team
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Governance Facilitator to join our Southend Governance Team. Working closely with the Divisional Governance Lead, you will play a key role in promoting a strong organisational safety culture focused on delivering consistently high‑quality care.
In this vital role, you will provide governance expertise to support the effective and timely review of incidents, ensuring appropriate management, escalation, and learning. You will contribute to risk review and reporting processes and play an important part in supporting regulatory compliance across the division.
You will bring expert knowledge of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), principles of risk management, and Duty of Candour requirements to ensure we continue to meet CQC regulatory standards. Central to the role is the promotion of an open, transparent culture that actively supports improvements in clinical safety and quality.
Working collaboratively with clinical and operational teams, you will help deliver national, CQC, and local service standards, supporting progress against our annual plan and strategic objectives. As a role model for our Leadership and Management Behaviour Framework, you will champion our values and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an effective ambassador for the trust, be credible and knowledgeable with the confidence and interpersonal skills to support staff at all levels in the divisions.
The post holder will be responsible for leading the day-to-day management of incidents and their review, identifying incidents which need escalation, identification and management of risk and compliance within the Southend CSS Service under the direction of the Governance Lead, working collaboratively with other managers including the MSE Patient Safety and Risk and Compliance teams to delivering the trusts governance handbook.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience of the NHS, patient safety and clinical governance agenda
- Proficient in the use a wide variety of IT and software packages
- Experience of developing training materials and teaching to multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of working to tight deadlines, setting priorities and dealing with a varied workload
Desirable criteria
- Significant experience in using risk management systems
- Experience in working with the DCIQ IT system
- Experience in managing complaints
Communication
Essential criteria
- Excellent standard of written English - demonstrated throughout application form
- High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to lead, influence and motivate - demonstrated in previous experience and supporting information
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate experince within a Quality Governance environment or similar
- Ability to apply principles of Governance and Risk management at a practical level
- Ability to wok on own initiative abd make independent decisions
Desirable criteria
- Production of monitoring reports
- Experience of reviewing and improving systems within an NHS organisation
