Staff Nurse - Ophthalmology

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Staff Nurse with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills who is dedicated to working as part of the team here within our Ophthalmology department.

Main duties of the job
- Ensure the rights of patients are respected at all times and assist in the provision of information, enabling informed decisions to be made about their care.
- Positively contribute to the process of change within the department.
- Contribute to the reduction of healthcare acquired infection by ensuring a high standard of infection control practice.
- To ensure personal attendance at mandatory training.
- Learn and perform new skills in relation to this specialty e.g. IV drug administration, defibrillation, venipuncture, ECG recording etc.
- Demonstrate nursing skills to more junior members of the nursing team, to enable them to assist in the implementation of prescribed nursing actions.
- To ensure that an individual programme of care is planned, implemented and evaluated for each patient within own sphere of responsibility.
- To work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of car to the patients.
- To act as team leader including taking charge in the absence of Deputy Ward Manager/Ward Manager.
- To participate in all relevant aspects of the Governance process.
- You will adhere to the NMC code of Professional Conduct at all times and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- To act as a positive role model at all times.
