Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

Job overview
In this roley ou will support the management of data generated by research in the Trust’s National Institute for health Research (NIHR) study portfolio and other research by agreement.
As a Data administrator, you will identify, collate and check the accuracy of trial data submitted into web-based data collection tools, which will be used to ensure the secure and efficient management of data for patients in clinical research studies across the Trust.
You will be an administrative user of the EDGE web-based, research management system responsible for adding and removing users, delivering system training to new starters and ensuring accuracy of data within the system.
You will provide routine and bespoke data reports to the R&D senior management team, liaising with other members of the R&D team and research study teams across the Trust as required. These reports may include financial data, which will necessitate collaboration with the R&D finance team and external study sponsors, including commercial companies and their representatives.
You will undertake research governance and other audit activities to monitor the Trust’s compliance with the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and other national and international regulations.
Main duties of the job
Be the first point of contact for research data and information management queries from both within and outside the Trust.
Required to communicate with all members of the R&D team, research teams across the Trust, National Institute of Health and Social Care research (NIHR) staff, external study sponsors (both commercial and non-commercial), universities and trial centres
To be responsible for monitoring data completeness of the web-based EDGE system.
To undertake a variety of data management tasks, including data and statistical analysis using a range of software and web-based applications
To provide clear, accurate data for inclusion in the collation and production of R&D monthly, quarterly and annual reports, including those aimed at research-naïve NHS staff, and patients and the public
To assist the Data Coordinator in developing and preparing overall project plans, and to autonomously plan and deliver key work streams in relation to the projects for which the post holder is responsible.
Take on the role of the Administrator of the EDGE system. This includes:
adding and removing users as appropriate
Develop and run scheduled and ad hoc research study activity reports, including (but not limited to) patient screening (numbers and time), recruitment compared to the planned target over the agreed time period, number of recruits over a given time period

Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working in the NHS
- Previous experience of electronic data management systems
- Relevant qualification/experience
- High level of general education to NVQ level 4 Higher National Diploma or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of managing data associated with clinical research
- Project management experience
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to collect and analyse audit data
- Experience with Microsoft programmes
- Ability to analyse and communicate complex information
