Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Job overview

We are offering a Clinical Research Fellow position within the Rheumatology Medicine department at Basildon Hospital. This post is research post combined with providing ongoing commitment to the Rheumatology department.  It provides an excellent opportunity to work on ongoing Rheumatology projects. 

 

Main duties of the job

This fixed term post is jointly funded by Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and is designed to provide research training and experience in Rheumatology under the guidance of the Clinical lead The commitments will be clinical and research activity with allotted time for teaching & training. Candidate will be reporting to a named educational supervisor and will go through assessments as applicable.

 

The candidate will undertake supervised learning events and other work place based assessments to assess competency and further training needs.

 

The post holder will be appraised on an annual basis and the process will include a review of the past year’s performance, setting of aims and objectives for the coming year and identification of educational needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Provide and receive information regarding current clinical trials which contain highly complex, sensitive or contentious data and information.

 

·         Maintain a working knowledge of relevant current treatments and national clinical trials offered to rheumatology patients both locally and nationally.

 

·         Relate and provide complex written and verbal information to participants and their carers using empathetic and reassuring skills when advising, informing and supporting them in their decision-making regarding entering a clinical trial and throughout their participation in clinical trials.

 

·         Provide teaching and education of current trials and act as a resource to personnel and staff involved with clinical trials.

 

·         Act as an advocate for clinical trials’ participants by addressing and supporting their needs and rights.

 

·         Attending local, regional and national meetings related to specific trials. To make representations to such meetings as necessary according to the needs of the service.

 

·         Working as part of an extended Multi Disciplinary Team by maintaining excellent link with clinic staff, ward, treatment areas and support departments regarding the protocol care required for clinical trials’ patients and provide educational resource as necessary.

Essential criteria
  • Medically qualified MBBS
  • Full GMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training ALS

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in Rheumatology to registrar level or above
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Research management/Research Governance Framework
