Job overview

Clinic Nurse Breast Care, Band 5 (12 hours a week)

In line with the Trust Vision to provide the “Best Care for Everyone…” 

The post holder will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary breast care team delivering a high quality patient centred service for its users and their supporters.

Your main role will be contributing to the day-to-day smooth and safe running of the symptomatic “2 week wait” outpatient clinic that is held daily (Monday to Friday). 

This will require an individual who is able to communicate effectively and organise themselves and others efficiently.

You will be expected to provide clear direction and support to junior colleagues and health care assistants and act a professional role model delivering care in a respectful and sensitive manner.

 

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity is available at Thirlestaine Breast Centre to be a Clinic Nurse.

We are looking for a motivated nurse to join the Breast Care Nursing Team to support and care for patients accessing Breast Services.

Key aspects of the role include:

- The co-ordinating of the clinics to provide an efficient service and quality breast care for patients accessing Breast Services via Thirlestaine Breast Centre, Cheltenham.

- Providing clear direction and support for Healthcare assistants working within Breast Services.

- We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our forward thinking breast multi-professional team.

- We welcome informal enquiries for further information and are happy to arrange an informal visit, if you would like to look around Thirlestaine Breast Centre and meet some of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Promoting and maintaining a clean and safe environment for staff and service users following infection control policies and procedures 

- Assisting medical staff with minor invasive procedures

- Chaperone patients undergoing examinations in clinician and clinical nurse specialist clinics 

- Ensuring appropriate information is provided to service user following a procedure or for further care

- Coordinate outpatient clinic and working alongside health care support workers to ensure clinic is running in a timely and efficient manner

- Monitor stock supplies of equipment and order any equipment required on a weekly basis 

- Demonstrate a high level of accuracy in relation checking pathology specimens

- Undertake required safety checks and audits – resus trolley checks and hand hygiene audits

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development/ clinical experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates ability to use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to develop own clinical skills and willingness to participate in CPD
  • Able to delegate and prioritise workload and care - supporting others and adapting to changing needs/ deadlines
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Demonstrates ability to question and challenge nursing practice in a constructive way so that standards of patient care are continually evaluated and improved
  • Able to navigate basic IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
