A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work in an ambitious team to help deliver an exciting yet challenging £60m Capital Programme for the Trust.

This post will work as part of  the project accounts team to deliver financial support to key Trust capital projects, the development of the long-term capital financial plan and to undertake financial reporting in respect of capital assets.

You will need to build effective relationships with finance and non-finance staff to achieve the requirements of the role and support fellow team members to deliver the capital plan of the organisation.

You will provide a financial management service in respect of the Trust’s annual capital programme including reporting of the financial impact of major capital projects within the monthly reporting cycle, variance analysis, forecasting and involvement in the long-term capital planning processes.

We are looking for a motivated, conscientious and positive individual, with a strong educational background and capital financial management experience, who is organised, professional and shares a desire to learn and improve both as part of a team and as an individual.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

Day to day financial monitoring and reporting of the Trust’s capital programme, the production of the monthly project progress reports and circulation of monthly budget statements to project leads.Prepare budget, expenditure and forecast journals to input financial information into the ledger to agreed timetables. Review entry of transactions to the financial ledger to ensure that the financial position for capital projects is accurately reflected within the monthly reported position. Investigating and correcting where this is not the case.

Review the financial ledger to ensure that the expenditure that is against capital projects is in line with accounting standards and Trust accounting policies.

To work closely with the project leads to investigate, summarise and challenge any variances to plan or latest forecasts, identifying the causes.

Provide Budget Holders with accurate financial information to assist them in controlling and monitoring their financial resources. This is likely to include production of reports, attendance at meetings, or any ad hoc costing/investigation as requested.

Leads on the monitoring of project progress in order to assess and convert the Trust's capital expenditure into assets to be recorded on the fixed asset register.

Provide professional and complex financial information and advice to managers at various levels within the Trust, to support the preparation of business cases.

Assist in the provision of information to support internal and external reporting requirements.

Monitor the timing of capital payments and receipts to support the monitoring of the Trust’s cash position and timely drawing of external funds.

Supports the Capital Accountant with the Trust asset valuation, in particular around the information around capital expenditure and completion of projects.

Support in the completion of a regular depreciation forecast based on the asset register and forecast capital expenditure.

Provision of professional financial advice and support to Senior Managers, Budget Holders/Project Leads and Finance staff, including information on accounting treatment (including IFRS16) and governance processes.

To promote and challenge to ensure that the Trust’s Financial Policies including Trust Standing Financial Instructions and Standing Orders are adhered to, value for money secured and financial stability achieved. Escalating incidences where appropriate.

Respond to internal and external audit requirements and ensuring they are responded to in a timely manner.

Able to run the depreciation process and month end close in fixed asset register to calculate capital charges accurately and to post monthly journals for depreciation as required.

  • Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualified or confirmed Intermediate Level 3 AAT upwards or Accountancy degree
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English (Grade 4 / Grade C and above)

  • Studying or desire to study for a CCAB qualification

Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced knowledge and highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • High level of numeracy and accuracy skills
  • Able to cope under pressure
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience of budgetary control systems and procedures

Experience

  • Experience of Accountancy & Financial management and reporting within a large organisation
  • Appropriate experience working in the finance department of a large organisation
  • Experience of capital accounting to include the relevant accounting standards
  • Practical working knowledge of analysing, interpreting and reporting large complex data
