We are inviting applications for a Post CCT SWETA Academy Leadership Fellowship within the Gastroenterology service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a 7-month full-time fellowship designed for post-CCT Gastroenterology trainees who wish to develop regional leadership, education and service-development skills alongside advanced clinical practice. The role provides a structured opportunity to gain experience that will support preparation for future consultant appointments, with a particular focus on endoscopy training, quality improvement and regional network working.
The post holder will undertake 5 clinical sessions per week within Gastroenterology, tailored to their areas of interest, alongside 3 sessions per week dedicated to work with the South West Endoscopy Training Academy (SWETA) / South West Endoscopy Network.
The post is Post-CCT and will be remunerated at the highest Specialty Registrar salary point.

The post holder will:

Deliver high-quality clinical care within Gastroenterology, with opportunities aligned to individual sub-specialty interests including IBD, hepatology, nutrition and advanced polypectomy

Participate in outpatient clinics, ward-based activity and other clinical duties as agreed within the job plan
-
Contribute to endoscopy services within a fully JAG-accredited endoscopy unit, with access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

Undertake regional leadership and development work through the SWETA / South West Endoscopy Network, supporting agreed regional priorities and workstreams

Support endoscopy training activity, including:

Training lists

Simulation and human factors courses

Faculty development and trainer support

Contribute to audit, quality improvement and service evaluation projects at Trust and regional level

Participate in research and education activity where appropriate

Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and across organisational boundaries

Maintain professional standards in line with GMC Good Medical Practice, Trust policies and clinical governance requirements
There is no General Internal Medicine commitment and no on-call requirement associated with this post.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide safe, effective and patient-centred Gastroenterology care in accordance with Trust policies and national standards

Undertake clinical activity across inpatient and outpatient settings as agreed within the job plan

Maintain and develop endoscopic skills, holding JAG certification in gastroscopy (and colonoscopy where applicable)
-
Participate in MDTs, clinical meetings and service planning discussions
-
Demonstrate the ability to work independently while recognising limits of competence and seeking senior advice when appropriate
Leadership, Education and Development

Undertake structured leadership development through the SWETA Academy Fellowship
-
Support regional endoscopy education, training quality and workforce development initiatives
-
Contribute to faculty development, training innovation and educational governance
-
Support audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including closing audit loops and embedding learning
Governance, Audit and Research

Participate in departmental audit and quality improvement programmes

Contribute to clinical governance activities in line with Trust expectations
-
Engage in research activity where appropriate and support evidence-based practice
Professional Responsibilities

Participate fully in appraisal and revalidation processes

Maintain mandatory training and professional certifications, including ALS

Comply with information governance, safeguarding and confidentiality requirements

Qualifications

- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Completion of CCT in Gastroenterology (or within 6 months at start date)

- Evidence of additional postgraduate qualifications relevant to leadership, education or management (e.g. PGCert, Fellowship, Leadership programme)
Clinical & Endoscopy Experience

- Broad clinical experience in Gastroenterology at Specialty Registrar / Post-CCT level
- JAG certification in gastroscopy
- Ability to deliver safe, independent clinical practice within agreed job plan
