Qualifications

Essential criteria

Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy

Desirable criteria

A Level 3 qualification in maternity support (this could be an NVQ, BTEC or equivalent international qualification), or willingness to undertake this qualification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

Good written and verbal communication skills with a good command and understanding of English, punctuation and grammar
Good interpersonal skills for dealing with people internal and external to the organisation
Ability to work flexibly within a team
An excellent professional manner to minimise conflict, resolve queries and maintain the reputation of the organisation when dealing with members of the multi-disciplinary team and members of the public
Ability to read notes, extract data and document accurately on the relevant systems

Clinical / Experience

Essential criteria

Ability to take blood samples, after appropriate training, if required

Desirable criteria

Appropriate experience in a hospital environment
Experience of Trust IT systems

Personal Attributes

Essential criteria

Flexible and able to react to changes and methods of working
Ability to use initiative and sound judgement when providing patient care
Ability to handle occasional distressing circumstances and assist with providing bereavement care to women and their families

Remote developmental histories and child observations (via video calls)
Peer MDT diagnostic decision-making, with the support of the senior clinical MDT where required
Tech-enabled outcome report writing
Outcome calls with parents and families (via video call)

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
