Job overview

Applications are welcomed for a 12-month Fixed Term post for a Fellow in Otology at Gloucestershire Hospitals from August 2027 to August 2028. This is a full-time post (10PAs) based in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Candidates must have FRCS (ORL) and have CCT at the commencement of duties. The post has been developed to provide advanced specialist training in otology, the use of the laser in otology, the use of endoscopes and mirrors in otology, and neurotology. The department has an international reputation for its development of laser techniques in otology and was the first ENT department to use Leica 3D imaging for teaching in theatre.

Main duties of the job

The post has been developed to
1) provide  advanced specialist training in otology and neurotology (including the use of the laser in otology),  
2) help support the activity of consultants with a specialist interest in otology.
3) provide on call support for the department

The post is a full-time post for 10 sessions per week. One session will be allocated for CPD.  There are seven fixed sessions per week and an average of one flexible session per week to enable the successful applicant to cover for operating lists and outpatient sessions when others are on leave.  The post-holder may be required to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, deputising for colleagues in their absence as required.  The post-holder will be required to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.  The post-holder will be responsible to the on- call Consultant for any given day. The job plan is subject to review of middle-grade training, service commitment, and timetabling.

Person Specification: 

Essential qualifications:
Full General Medical Council registration
MRCS or FRCS

Essential clinical skills and experience:
At least 1 years’ experience of managing ENT patients
Good practical skills
Excellent communication skills
Must have an interest in teaching all grades of hospital and professional staff

Essential Management & Administrative skills:
Willing and able to work with colleagues in other specialities, professions and roles to ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe and reliable service. 
Familiar with clinical governance.
A willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership.
Awareness of current relevant developments within the wider NHS.
Determination to have a key role in establishing and developing the service
