Job overview
Interventional Radiology Admin Support, Band 3 (18.75 hours a week)
This six‑month maternity cover role offers an excellent opportunity to join the dynamic Interventional Radiology (IR) team at Gloucestershire Hospitals, supporting the smooth delivery of high‑quality patient care across a wide range of specialist procedures.
You will support proactive coordination of IR clinics and treatments, ensuring referrals, bookings, cancellations and follow‑up communications are managed efficiently and in line with national guidelines and departmental standards. Working closely with the IR consultants, IR Manager, and the wider radiology appointments team, you will play a key part in maintaining clear, timely communication with patients and staff and ensuring the optimal running of the IR service.
The role provides a chance to build strong operational knowledge of IR pathways, contribute to service improvement, and develop a deeper understanding of complex clinical workflows within a supportive and collaborative department.
Main duties of the job
- Coordinate Interventional Radiology (IR) clinics, managing referrals, bookings, cancellations and follow‑up arrangements.
- Act as the first point of contact for patients and staff, providing clear information about appointments, procedures and preparation requirements.
- Liaise closely with IR consultants, the IR Manager, and wider clinical teams to support effective list management, capacity planning and smooth day‑to‑day service delivery.
- Maintain accurate patient data on relevant systems (e.g., CRIS, TrakCare), ensuring high‑quality record‑keeping and timely processing of DNAs and rebookings.
- Attend IR meetings and contribute to communication across the service regarding admissions, cancellations and operational updates.
- Work efficiently under pressure, prioritising tasks, solving problems proactively and maintaining professionalism in a busy environment.
Working for our organisation
We take pride in placing people at the centre of everything we do, working together as a united team. Driven by a shared ambition to continually grow, develop, and learn, we recognise and value every contribution. By combining our experience and skills, we not only support our vibrant, diverse communities, but also support one another.
With a team of over 9,000 employees, we are proud to be the largest employer in Gloucestershire and rank among the top 10 largest Trusts in the South West region. By joining our Trust, you will benefit from an excellent package that includes exclusive benefits, flexible working opportunities and the chance to gain valuable experience in one or both of our innovative hospitals.
As well as generous annual leave allowance, you will have access to the excellent NHS pension scheme, competitive bank rates, discounts at local shops and restaurants, access to two on-site nurseries, discounted public transport, reward and recognition and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role requires strong organisational ability, attention to detail and confidence working in a fast‑paced, clinically focused environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE/O‑Level standard and ideally bring at least two years’ NHS experience, within Radiology or a similar service, with familiarity of systems such as CRIS, TrakCare (or other patient administration systems) and standard Microsoft applications.
You will be able to work calmly under pressure, meet tight deadlines and maintain high‑quality data entry, demonstrating excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills when liaising with patients, consultants and wider clinical teams. The postholder will be adept at problem‑solving, pre‑empting potential issues, and managing their own workload independently while contributing to a safe, responsive and efficient service.
