Job overview
The Resus Clinical Practitioner (RCP) will play a pivotal role in the assessment and management of acutely unwell adults and children within the Emergency Department. The post holder will work within the resuscitation area, demonstrating advanced clinical skills, critical decision making, and leadership in the care of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, including trauma. They will utilize specialist knowledge and experience to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, support junior staff in developing clinical competence and contribute to improving patient outcomes through education, clinical excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration. This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding Resus Clinical Practitioner team!
Additional working pattern details: We work a mixture of nights and days in the Emergency Department. 07:30-20:00 and 19:30-20:00.
Main duties of the job
- Preparation of resuscitation bays for receiving patients, including checking of equipment and stock within the department.
- Ability and knowledge to look after the acutely unwell Adult or Child.
- Preparation and administration of blood and blood products in line with Trust policy.
- Preparation and administration of drugs via different routes in line with Trust policy.
- Competence in the use of all equipment within the Resuscitation Department, including monitoring devices, rapid infusers, blood gas analyser machine, ventilators and any other equipment used for caring for the critically ill patient.
- The practice of, or willingness to, undertake training for extended skills identified as appropriate to the role

Experience

- Substantial experience in working within an Emergency department
Desirable criteria
- Manchester Triage trained qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Advanced Life Support ALS
- Intermediate Life Support ILS
- Paediatric Life Support PLS
- Teaching or mentoring & assessing qualification
- Experience working in Resus
Desirable criteria
- ILS Instructor
- Level 1 & 2 trauma trained
- Completion of recognized Trauma course e.g. ATNC/ ETC
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support APLS
- Trauma Intermediate Life Support TILS
- ALS Instructor
