Job overview

The adult mental health services in Arfon work closely with Gwynedd Social Services, the Third Sector and Partnership agencies to provide a comprehensive service for people with mental health needs within Arfon.

 

The care of individuals is subject to the Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010 and the post holder is expected to work in line with the requirements of the MH Measure. The post holder will provide patient centred recovery based care through a role based in secondary care services within the CMHT.

 

The CMHT is also supported by a team of occupational therapists and psychologists who work alongside both primary and secondary care. This aids resilience and promotes wellbeing in people presenting with common MH problems and enable rapid access to advice.

 

The post holder will be expected to communicate effectively and enable development of links not only with secondary care MH services but also with GP clusters, third sector, and local authority and partnership agencies. This would enable a whole community asset approach and trauma informed care model of social prescribing.

Main duties of the job

The Medical provision in Arfon for Mental Health Services is x 1.0 WTE Consultant Psychiatrists covering.

 

The post holder will be the 1.0wte Specialty Doctor with responsibility for patients open to the CMHT resident in care homes, S117 patients, Clozapine, Lithium and Depot Clinics.

 

The Secondary care team meets weekly to discuss referrals into the team for allocation of care coordinator and discussion of cases. These patients fall under Part II of the MH Measure. Care coordination is undertaken by the CPNs, Social workers and OTs within the team.

The Health Board employs around 18,000 staff and has a budget of around £1.1 billion.  It is responsible for the operation of three district general hospitals.  Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd near Rhyl, and Wrexham Maelor Hospital.  There are twenty two other acute and community hospitals, and a network of over ninety health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units.  It also coordinates the work of GP practices and the NHS services provided in North Wales by dentists, opticians and pharmacies.

The Health Board is currently undergoing a programme of change.  Mental Health Services are provided by a Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Division.

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
  • Minimum of four years (full time or equivalent) in postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent EEA training.
  • At least two years training must be in the relevant specialty or recognised equivalent training (this is defined as the successful completion of the Foundation programme, followed by either successful completion of ST1 and ST2 or CT1 and CT2 or as a FTSTA or its recognised equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General medical skills
  • Skills in mental health assessment of both functional and organic disorders
  • Experience in using both psychological and pharmacological treatment options with adult and older adult patients
