Job overview

Are you looking for a rewarding Emergency Medicine MedEd post in a friendly, supportive, and truly unique environment? Come and join us in Bangor for a twelve‑month experience in a rural Emergency Department renowned for its excellent junior doctor training and strong team ethos.

Whether you're exploring EM for the first time or are committed to building a long-term career in the specialty, you’ll be welcomed into a vibrant multidisciplinary team. Our department includes:

  • 13 SHO-tier doctors (F2s, ACCS trainees, GPSTs, and Junior Clinical Fellows)
  • An Academic F2
  • Ten Clinical Fellows in EM/PHEM
  • One EM HST trainee
  • Twelve Consultants
  • Two Associate Specialist / Specialist Grade doctors
  • An exceptional team of ENPs and ACPs

You’ll be part of a supportive, hands-on clinical environment where learning and development genuinely come first.

These posts mirror deanery training roles in every meaningful way. You’ll benefit from:

  • Protected teaching every Thursday afternoon within the ED
  • Additional junior doctor tutorials and teaching sessions
  • Your own Educational Supervisor to support your goals and guide your progression
  • Up to 11 days of personal development time for relevant training opportunities

We’re committed to helping you grow—whether that’s gaining confidence in core EM skills or shaping the next steps of your career.

Main duties of the job

These posts are aimed at doctors who are at the start of their career with an interest in medical education. These 12-month FY3+ posts combine Emergency Medicine with 30% Medical Education.

The clinical part of the post is an F3 (Clinical Fellow) post which is identical to our educationally-approved F2/ST1 level posts.

The Medical Education component of the post includes teaching medical students in both the Emergency Department and in formal tutorial and simulation sessions in the Clinical Skills lab. When you are delivering teaching on the shop floor you will be totally supernumerary and so can work closely with the students.  The majority of our students come from Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea Medical Schools. You will be supported by the fantastic staff in the undergraduate team.

Working for our organisation

The current applicable pay scales are displayed above; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found here: Resident Doctors in Wales Contract Reform
