The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

 

Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, and based at Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor.

 

The post will be available from August 2026 on a full time (10 Sessions per week) permanent basis.

 

Sandwiched between Snowdonia National Park and the stunning coastline of Anglesey, the area is well known for its beautiful beaches, lakes and mountains and is popular for those seeking an outdoor lifestyle, or with interests in extreme/adrenaline-inducing sports.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to help support the gastrointestinal services; the inpatient care, outpatient clinic and endoscopy unit. The post holder will work on a 30 bedded Gastroenterology Ward.

 

Main duties will be to support the diagnostic GI service, including Open Access Gastroscopy, out-patient clinics and in-patients.

 

The successful candidate is expected to keep abreast of recent developments in the specialty, to participate and undertake audit and to attend all the postgraduate meetings held in the hospital.  Planned research will be encouraged with the aim to continue the track record of successful submission to interventional conferences.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP part 1 & 2 or equivalent
  • Full registration with GMC
  • ALS
Desirable criteria
  • ATLS
  • Postgraduate qualification in Gastroenterology

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Gastroenterology competencies to appropriate level
  • Working towards PACES

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Gastroenterology or as a fixed term specialty trainee
Desirable criteria
  • Audit/Research

Skills

Essential criteria
  • General medical/endoscopy procedures appropriate to experience
  • Write clear concise notes/clinical histories
  • Supervisory skills
