The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2025/2026 and will be implemented in August 2025 with arrears backdated to 1st April 2025 where applicable. 

 

Job overview

The post will medically oversee the patients in the inpatient detoxification unit for 5 sessions.  The work will consist of assessments and review of all patients admitted to Hafan Wen Treatment Unit from the six counties of North Wales, reviewing their care plans and planning discharge with relevant community staff, physical examinations, history taking, dictation of discharge summaries, prescribing within the agreed guidelines of the SMS operational policy document and multi-disciplinary working.

 

The post holder will provide day to day supervision of alcohol and drug detoxification regimes in partnership with the local community teams and ensure robust discharge planning and after care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based at the Hafan Wen Unit and will be a member of and provide day to day medical support to the relevant inpatient multi-disciplinary team.  The post holder will provide expertise in the psychiatric diagnosis and treatment of inpatient detoxification for all patients falling within this remit overseeing detoxification of alcohol and drugs, as well as other clinical services in support of inpatients and their families/carers.

  

The post holder will work collaboratively and supportively with any trainee doctor placed at times in the SMS Inpatient Unit.  The post holder will seek to ensure a balanced workload with the trainee doctor, and assist with his/her education including workplace based assessments under the general guidance of the Consultant.

Professional

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Minimum of four years (full time or equivalent) in postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent EEA training. At least two years training must be in the relevant specialty or recognised equivalent training (this is defined as the successful completion of the Foundation programme, followed by either successful completion of ST1 and ST2 or CT1 and CT2 or as a FTSTA or its recognised equivalent).
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate Qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Section 12(2) Approved

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General medical skills
Desirable criteria
  • 2 years’ experience in Adult / Forensic psychiatry
  • Experience in adult psychiatry for a minimum of 1 year.
