What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualifications: PgD in Ultrasound or equivalent, HCPC registration or voluntary registration, and the ability to travel between our sites. You will be expected to work across all 4 HHFT sites.
  • Experience: A professional and experienced Sonographer committed to excellent patient care and high-quality imaging.

Main duties of the job

We undertake a variety of examinations for ED, inpatients, outpatients and GP patients including urology, baby hips, MSK, vascular, gynae and soft tissue. We also offer ultrasound access for ambulatory services such as Stroke and Same Day Urgent Care, please note that this post does not include Obstetric Ultrasound as this is run by a separate Department.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • PG dip Ultrasound or international equivalent or DMU
  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiology or equivalent
  • Voluntary register held by RCT or other regulatory body (HCPC, GMC or NMC)
Desirable criteria
  • A CASE accredited postgraduate qualification in medical ultrasound
  • Additional post graduate qualification e.g. MSc
  • Specialist short courses in US practice

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad experience in ultrasound techniques must be able to scan at least two specialties (general, gynae, vascular, small parts, MSK etc)
  • Demonstratable knowledge of a range of abnormalities and pathologies
  • Extensive experience within hospital US practice to include reporting of ultrasound examinations and relevant patient management.
  • 6 months minimum UK ultrasound experience ideally in an NHS setting
  • Experience in teaching and assessing individuals in a range of subjects
  • Comprehensive CPD portfolio, including evidence of attending all mandatory courses.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the post.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in DVT / gynaecological scanning
  • Knowledge of CRIS and PACS
  • Knowledge of local NHS targets and initiatives
  • Knowledge of current NHS policies/guidelines which may influence service provision
  • Previous experience in research projects/publications.
  • Direct supervisory responsibility

Essential criteria
  • Ability to plan and organise a number of complex activities as part of an MDT.
  • Be able to reflect on and learn from relevant research evidence, policies and legislation and apply across professional and organisational boundaries.
  • Must be able to independently coordinate, manage and monitor own work lists.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively to both patients and staff and in challenging circumstances
  • Awareness of clinical governance
  • Range of effective approaches for teaching & development of juniors
  • Ability to manoeuvre US equipment and accessories effectively
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of audit.
