We are delighted to offer this opportunity to join the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Cardiology department. Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist (Interventionalist) with full training and accreditation.
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of cardiac services within the region, with a well-established reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and achievement. The Trust provides the range of secondary adult cardiac services across a large part of Hampshire, with hospitals situated in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover that are covered by our service. This post would ideally suit a talented and ambitious individual who would work alongside the other members of the Cardiology team.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting new position to strengthen our cardiac team and bring new individual skills to our department within Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In addition, the post comprises general cardiology commitments and contribution to the cardiology on call rota.
The successful candidate will provide consultant-led care across general and interventional cardiology, including the assessment and management of acute and elective cardiology patients. They will perform a full range of contemporary coronary interventions in our state-of-the-art catheter laboratories, with confidence in complex PCI including left main stem disease, bifurcation PCI (using both provisional and two-stent strategies where appropriate), and calcium modification techniques such as atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, and cutting/scoring balloons. The postholder will contribute to multidisciplinary heart team discussions, support high-quality clinical governance through audit and quality improvement activity, and participate in teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
- On the GMC Specialist Register for Cardiology or eligible for entry within six months of attainment of CCT at date of interview
Desirable criteria
- Higher research MD/PhD or Masters in appropriate areas
Clinical Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Competent in the management of cardiovascular disease at consultant level
- Comprehensive training and experience in general cardiology and interventional cardiology
- High-quality subspecialty training in interventional cardiology within a recognised programme/centre
- Experience in the assessment and management of acute coronary syndromes and stable coronary syndromes
- Demonstrable experience in contemporary complex PCI, including
- Experience in left main stem intervention, bifurcation PCI, calcium modification techniques
- Experience in urgent and inpatient coronary angiography and PCI
- Understanding of clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and national registry participation relevant to interventional cardiology
Desirable criteria
- Experience gained in a high-volume tertiary interventional centre
- Experience with high-risk PCI pathways and adjunctive strategies
- Experience of CTO PCI (as primary or secondary operator)
- Evidence of research involvement, publications, or participation in clinical trials
Clinical Skills & Ability
Essential criteria
- Ability to independently perform diagnostic coronary angiography and elective PCI to a high standard
- Ability to provide primary PCI (PPCI) cover as part of a 24/7 rota, including out-of-hours work
- Ability to manage invasive cardiology emergencies as part of PPCI cover, including pericardiocentesis and temporary pacemaker implantation
- Competence in intracoronary imaging and • Ability to safely undertake and manage complex coronary intervention, including left main, bifurcation PCI, and calcium modification. • Experience in complex bifurcation techniques and optimisation strategies. • Enthusiasm for teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and cath lab colleagues. • Evidence of leadership in service development and innovation. hampshirehospitalscareers.co.uk physiology (e.g., IVUS/OCT, pressure wire assessment)
- Ability to attend the hospital within 30 minutes during on-call periods
- Excellent clinical judgement, decision-making, and ability to manage complications

- Experience of teaching at consultant or SpR level
- Evidence of competent research skills
