Flexible working discussions are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

·        Join the HHFT oncology service, working in close collaboration with colleagues across the relevant cancer site-specific multi-disciplinary teams and other allied specialities (palliative medicine, emergency medicine, clinical haematology etc).

·        Deliver outpatient consultations, see patients on the wards and if problems arise during their chemotherapy treatment on the oncology units.

·        Consultant input to the acute oncology service, including partaking in inpatient ward rounds.

·        Participate in teaching and training of all junior doctors across Trust.

·        Participate in audit and responsibility for clinical governance and quality improvement. In particular the bimonthly mortality and morbidity meeting.

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.

Tackling Climate Change: Hampshire Hospitals aims to embed sustainability and net zero carbon principles into the delivery of care across all its services. To find out more, search HHFT Climate Action or [email protected].

THE CLINICAL ROLE

This post will be split between Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

 The post itself

This post has been devised to provide consistent Consultant cover for GI cancer patients on the Basingstoke and Winchester sites as well as work in a second tumour site.  The post-holder will work closely with the other Oncology consultants, specialist nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

They will be expected to coordinate GI oncology patients care, supervising their systemic treatment and also working with the wider team to continue to deliver a high quality systemic therapy service for the Trust.  It is also expected that they will deliver 1 acute Oncology ward round session per week and contribute to the team as a whole.

The job plan will include an appropriate proportion of time allowed for Supporting Professional Activity (audit, education, CPD etc.). Development of specialist interest which supports development within the Trust would also be considered following discussion and planning.

There are regular postgraduate teaching sessions to which the post-holder would be expected to contribute.

If appropriate the post-holder will be named in the contracts of training grades as the educational supervisor responsible for overseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such doctors on their careers.
