Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced leader to join Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Deputy Operations Director – Family and Clinical Support Services (FCSS).

This is a senior operational leadership role within one of the Trust's largest divisions, supporting services that employ approximately 1,900 staff and manage an annual budget of around £100 million. The postholder will work closely with the Operations Director, Clinical Directors, Clinical Matrons and Operational Service Managers to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality and financially sustainable services across multiple sites.  

As a key member of the divisional leadership team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the Division, drive operational performance and lead the delivery of national and local priorities. You will be responsible for developing strong partnerships with clinical and operational colleagues, ensuring patients receive the highest standards of care whilst supporting service improvement, workforce development and organisational transformation.

Main duties of the job

  • The Deputy Operations Director will provide senior operational leadership across the Family and Clinical Support Services Division, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality and patient-centred services.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Leading operational performance across the Division, ensuring delivery of quality, workforce, access and financial targets.
    • Working with Clinical Directors, Matrons and Operational Service Managers to improve patient outcomes, experience and service performance
    • Supporting the development and implementation of divisional and Trust strategies.
    • Leading service improvement and transformation programmes to deliver sustainable change.
    • Ensuring effective governance, risk management, business planning and performance reporting arrangements are in place.
    • Managing resources effectively to deliver divisional objectives and value for money.
    • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support service delivery and organisational priorities.
    • Deputising for the Operations Director as required and participating in senior management and on-call responsibilities.

  • Educated to degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Evidence of continued management learning and development
  • Evidence of in-depth professional knowledge in a number of disciplines and systems gained over an extended period through training and experience

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing complex services and team
  • Track record of delivering and meeting key operational targets
  • Track record of effective management of financial and human resources
  • Evidence of use of analytical and problem-solving skills in resolving difficult problems and the management and measurement of improved performance
  • Knowledge and application of change management/organizational development tools and techniques for assessing and improving service delivery
