Job overview
The Governance Support Officer will support the effective operation of corporate governance across the organisation. The post-holder will provide high-quality administrative, analytical, and coordination support to governance processes including risk management, policy management, committee administration, and compliance reporting.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the development, monitoring, and reporting of the organisation’s governance and assurance frameworks. Assist in maintaining systems for risk management, including updating the risk register, tracking actions, and supporting risk reviews. Produce and format governance reports, dashboards, and briefing papers.
Provide high-quality secretarial support for governance-related committees and working groups.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Analytical and judgement skills
- Support the development, monitoring, and reporting of the organisation’s governance and assurance frameworks.
- Assist in maintaining systems for risk management, including updating the risk register, tracking actions, and supporting risk reviews.
- Produce and format governance reports, dashboards, and briefing papers.
Planning and organisation
Provide high-quality secretariat support for governance-related committees and working groups.
- To prepare agendas and paperwork for meetings. Ensuring they are produced in line with the agreed format and distributed as necessary.
- Attend meetings and take informal and formal minutes as required. This may also include the maintenance, upkeep and updating of action trackers. Ensuring all documents are produced in line with the agreed format and distributed as necessary.
- Collate and quality-check papers; ensure timely distribution.
- Ensure governance meetings comply with statutory and organisational requirements.
· To support the wider Governance and Business team with daily tasks such as facilities management, stock control, ordering, collating papers, meeting room set up etc
· Prioritise workload effectively to meet deadlines.
· Contribute to the continuous improvement of governance processes
- Support the coordination of the policy review cycle and ensure policies meet organisational standards.
- Maintain the policy library and support teams in uploading, reviewing, and approving documents.
People management
- Line manages governance administrator
Information management
- Support teams in using incident reporting and risk management systems.
- Run routine reports and support investigation processes by tracking timelines and documentation.
- Assist with compliance data submissions and audits.

Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Experience producing formal minutes and agendas
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information
- Strong writing skills for minutes, reports, and correspondence
- Experience providing administrative or coordination support in a complex organisation.
Communication and interpersonal skills
Essential criteria
- Confident communicating with staff at all levels including senior leaders
- Positive, team-focused attitude
- Highly organised with ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Understanding of governance principles
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft 365, data systems).
