We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Neighbourhood Support Pharmacy Technician to join our Medicines Optimisation Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work across neighbourhood teams, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), GP practices and community pharmacies, supporting the safer, more effective and evidence-based use of medicines for patients across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Our Medicines Optimisation Team is a friendly, supportive and highly collaborative group of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff who are passionate about improving patient care and making the best use of NHS resources.
Working closely with neighbourhood teams, GP practices and Primary Care Networks means you’ll gain insight into the wider primary care system, build trusted professional relationships and support improvements that make a real difference to patients. The variety of the role means no two days are the same, offering opportunities to broaden your experience while making a tangible difference to outcomes for the population.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the Medicines Optimisation Team (MOT) to deliver the Integrated Care Board's (ICB) agreed Medicines Optimisation and Cost Improvement Programme (CIP), helping to identify and implement opportunities that improve value, optimise the use of NHS resources and maintain high-quality patient care. You will be supported by experienced pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to develop your expertise in medicines optimisation, prescribing analysis, quality improvement and programme delivery, with opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to improving patient outcomes across the healthcare system.
This varied role offers the chance to work on medicines optimisation priorities and quality improvement initiatives that directly improve patient care. You'll build strong relationships with healthcare professionals, contribute to innovative service developments and use your skills to influence positive change across primary care. Unlike traditional pharmacy technician roles, this position offers the opportunity to influence medicines optimisation across multiple practices and neighbourhoods, helping to improve outcomes for whole patient populations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Neighbourhood Support Pharmacy Technician, you'll work closely with neighbourhood teams, GP practices, PCNs, community pharmacies, and medicines optimisation colleagues to support the delivery of high-quality medicines optimisation services.
You'll contribute to prescribing safety initiatives, quality improvement programmes, and the delivery of medicines optimisation priorities and cost improvement programmes by analysing prescribing data, supporting clinical audits, reviewing medicines optimisation processes and implementing local and national prescribing guidance. You'll also produce and deliver reports and educational resources, provide medicines optimisation advice within your scope of practice, and support the delivery of service improvement initiatives.

A registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC.
Experienced working in a community pharmacy, hospital or primary care environment, with an interest in developing your knowledge of medicines optimisation.

Organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities.

The Neighbourhood Support Pharmacy Technician will support the delivery of the Medicines Optimisation workplan by working collaboratively with neighbourhood teams, PCNs community pharmacies, GP practices and colleagues across the Integrated Care Board to improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of prescribing.
Key responsibilities include:
Building and maintaining effective working relationships with neighbourhood teams, GP practices, PCNs, community pharmacies, medicines optimisation colleagues and the wider Integrated Care Board to support delivery of shared objectives.
Supporting medicines optimisation objectives and priorities, including delivery of agreed cost improvement programmes and service improvement initiatives across neighbourhood teams, PCNs and GP practices.
Analysing prescribing and clinical data to identify opportunities to improve patient care, prescribing quality and value.
Supporting clinical audits, data collection, reporting and evaluation to support local and national priorities.
Supporting the implementation of prescribing guidance, medicines optimisation programmes and change management initiatives.
Producing and delivering reports, educational resources and project documentation to support healthcare professionals and service delivery.
Promoting safe, evidence-based and cost-effective prescribing while supporting initiatives to reduce medicines waste.
Providing medicines optimisation advice within own competence and escalating complex queries where appropriate.
Supporting the review of prescribing processes and contributing to continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications and/ or experience
Essential criteria
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Knowledge of medicines optimisation, including legislation and policies acquired through training, NVQ/BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent.
- Experience working within a clinical environment in community pharmacy, primary care or hospital.
- Evidence of continued professional development relevant to the role.
