Job overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Please note that this advert may close early due to the amount of applications we receive.

Main duties of the job

Are you a new or recently qualified Dietitian looking to secure a varied Band 5 post in a large dietetic department?

We are looking for a Band 5 dietitian to join our Band 5 rotation programme which covers both the acute hospital setting and provides community experience.

This well established rotational programme is highly regarded for providing a great depth and breadth of dietetic experience and receives very positive feedback from previous postholders.

If you wish to work in a department where there is a great band 5 education programme and fabulous and varied opportunities for development and progression then this is the job for you!

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

What you`ll do

The successful applicant will join one of our seven rotations which currently cover medicine, surgery, stroke, trauma and orthopaedics / cardiothoracic, community hospitals and prescribing support. Each rotation is for 6 months and is designed in a specific order to give a broad range of experience and knowledge.

You will be expected to  manage a designated caseload in each rotation, supervised by senior colleagues. You will be required to deliver general outpatient clinics and diabetes group education sessions in some rotations.  There will be opportunities in each rotation to deliver projects, audits and training.  After passing a successful probation period you will have the opportunity to attend student training courses and then  be involved with dietetic student training,.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

We know that you will not be very experienced and we can give you the necessary skills and education to work in each clinical area. In return we require a proactive, enthusiastic dietitian who is willing to work hard and embrace every rotation. You need to be  happy to work independently but  also be able to  work well as part of a large dietetic and multidisciplinary team. You must be  confident in communicating in a variety of settings and with people from all backgrounds. You must be willing to use your initiative but  also be able to seek advice and support whenever you require it.  You should have recent  UK NHS dietetic experience.  The community rotations involve travel across Hampshire so being a car driver with a full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial.

Our service operates during core hours, Monday to Friday. Occasional work outside of core hours is required with prior notice. Applications from people from diverse backgrounds are particularly welcomed. We are family friendly so flexible working arrangements may be considered.
