Job overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Job Title: HICSS Product Lead

Contract Type: Permanent

Please be advised that this vacancy may close earlier than stated if we receive a large number of applications.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Digital Product Lead, where you’ll play a key role in shaping, developing and delivering the HICSS products that make a real difference across healthcare. In this role, you’ll lead the management and development of HICSS, balancing business-as-usual delivery with continuous improvement, product roadmaps and new initiatives.

You’ll work closely with clinical, operational and technical teams to turn complex requirements into practical digital solutions, while ensuring safe, effective and user-focused outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on collaboration, leadership and driving meaningful digital change in a fast-paced NHS environment.

About the team

The HICSS team provides operational support for the Endoscopy Management Software used at UHS and partner Trusts, and delivers regular upgrades to enhance and expand the functionality within these applications.

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Digital Product Lead is responsible for leading the development, delivery and ongoing management of HICSS. The role includes prioritising and coordinating product and development work, overseeing upgrades and releases, and ensuring that services are safe, effective and aligned with business priorities.

The post holder works closely with clinical, operational, technical and commercial colleagues to translate complex requirements into practical digital solutions. The role also includes contributing to governance, supplier relationships, and reporting.

The role requires strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will need experience in digital product or service delivery, stakeholder engagement, roadmap and workload management, and translating complex technical or clinical requirements into clear plans and solutions.

They should also have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, confidence in presenting information, and the ability to support staff, influence senior stakeholders and work within governance, safety and data protection requirements.
