Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Gynaecological cancers and Germ Cell tumours. This post involves working 4 days at University Hospital Southampton and 1 day a week at Salisbury District Hospital.

You will: 
•    Provide specialist Medical Oncology input with expertise in Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy for these groups of patients. 
•    Treat patients with Gynaecological cancers at UHS and SDH, and patients with Germ cell tumours at UHS. 
•    Provide oncology input to the UHS/SDH Gynae MDT and to the UHS Germ cell MDT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

UHS is one of the largest acute teaching trusts in England with a staff of 13,000 and a turnover of more than £1bn. It is one of the UK’s highest recruiting trusts of patients to clinical trials. The Trust is also a major centre for teaching and research in association with the University of Southampton and partners including the Medical Research Council and Welcome Trust.

The post is open to CCT holders (or those within 6 months) in Medical Oncology. It is available as a full time 10.25 PA post although part time or job share applicants will be considered.

You must hold GMC licence to practice with evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
Desirable criteria
  • CCT in Medical Oncology (or within 6 months of CCT date) or appropriate qualifications and experience to allow entry on to the Specialist Register
  • Recognised training in academic oncology with postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in Oncology research
  • Experience of working within the NHS

Aptitudes and skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
