Main duties of the job
The Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) is looking for a highly specialised clinical physiologist to join our neurophysiology service. You would be joining a vibrant and friendly neurophysiology team providing neurophysiology services for the local population and the regional neurosciences centre within University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, serving a population of over three million people across the South and the Channel Islands.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of five consultant neurophysiologists and two specialist registrars, working alongside our team of Physiologists to deliver a comprehensive neurophysiology service. In addition to routine outpatient NCS, evoked potential and EEG diagnostic activity, we provide inpatient services for the WNC (including the Neuro, General and Paediatric Intensive Care Units), Paediatric Neurology and the Neonatal Unit. We have both adult and paediatric Video telemetry beds.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The performance of routine neurophysiological diagnostic tests such as EEGs, nerve conduction studies and evoked potentials in the department, on the wards or ICU areas.
To perform advanced or specialist tests ambulatory EEG, videotelemetry or melatonin sleep EEGs. Assisting or solely responsible for spinal intraoperative monitoring (banding dependant).
To participate in teaching and training of junior staff.

You will have the necessary qualifications (BSc (CP (N)), BTEC HNC/D MPPM or equivalent).
Experience in performing basic and more advanced neurophysiological techniques.
Be able to write a technical EEG report.
Be enthusiastic with a keen interest in Neuroscience.
Experience/knowledge of intra-operative monitoring.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Bsc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) [CP(N)], BTEC HNC/D in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) or equivalent formal specialist training/experience and professional exam, Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology Board Examination Part 1 (ANS/ECNE/MSc Clinical Science (Neuroscience).
- Knowledge of specialist procedures acquired through specialist courses or relevant training experiences up to MSc level.
- Relevant post qualification experience.
- Able to perform a wide variety of investigations and or to have the highest level of specialist skills and knowledge within relevant field.
- Broad experience & familiarity in Clinical EEG of at least 4 years, including complex/advanced Evoked Potentials, ITU/Clinical department/operating theatre
- Able to interpret specialist Neurophysiological investigation results and patient’s conditions.
- Awareness of professional issues and objectives.
Desirable criteria
- Specialist training in Neurophysiological techniques including some advanced procedures.
- Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) registration.
- Assessment training qualification, (City and Guilds D32 or equivalent).
- Evidence of research projects.
- Supervisory experience
- Experience in intra operative monitoring
- Familiarity with XLTEK, Nihon Kohden and Nicolet Biomedical
- Awareness of professional issues and objectives.
