Main duties of the job
The emergency practitioner team within the Urgent Treatment Centre has an exciting opportunity for an individual as an experienced or trainee emergency practitioner in minor injury and illness.
As a band 6 trainee Emergency practitioner you will be enrolled in the fully funded successful regional minor injury and illness programme to teach you how to manage minor injury and illness in adults and paediatric patients.
Furthermore, clinically you will be supervised, assessed and supported by very experienced emergency practitioners to to give on the job training assessment, investigation and procedural advice.
Upon qualifying you will become a band 7 emergency practitioner. The expectation is that you will then commence you masters pathway or apprenticeship to help aid you in your future practitioner pathway.
The emergency practitioner pathway is a great introduction into the clinical practitioner pathway in your career. there are many options available to complete masters and apprenticeship pathways once the right candidate has qualified as an emergency practitioner to develop your practitioner skills and clinical practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working closely with members of the clinical, nursing, consultant and advanced clinical practitioner team the successful candidate should have significant emergency nursing experience.
A high level of competency in emergency skill including but not limited to wound closure and care, plastering, triage, health promotion and patient group directives.
Evidence of involvement of quality improvement, education and change management within their job role.
It is expected that the right candidate is flexible to work a range of shifts covering the hours between 07:30 to 22:30 including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Qualified Nurse, Midwife (Degree/Diploma) or Allied Health Professional
- Current NMC or HCPC registration
- Evidence of supporting learners in practice
- To undertake and gain WECC Minors Emergency Practitioner qualification or equivalent (Minor injury and Minor Illness)
- Experience working in an emergency care setting
- ILS and PILS
- Up to date knowledge of current guidelines relating to emergency care
- Experience of supervising/mentoring staff in an emergency care setting
- Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
- Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
Desirable criteria
- Independent Non Medical Prescribing Qualification
- Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner
- Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway
- Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan)
- Completion of Wessex minor injury and illness training and portfolio
- Current IRMER Certificate
