Job Title: Newly Qualified Nurse - Child

Please be advised that this vacancy may close earlier than stated if we receive a large number of applications.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at Southampton Children’s Hospital, where we are committed to delivering outstanding paediatric healthcare and continuously improving the experience of our young patients and their families.

Following our ambitious £5.1 million investment in a state-of-the-art children’s emergency and trauma department, Southampton Children’s Hospital continues to be at the forefront of paediatric healthcare.

Our dedicated children’s hospital provides a wide range of specialist paediatric services, offering you the opportunity to work with diverse teams, care for a varied patient population and explore a range of career and development pathways.

At UHS, our values guide everything we do: putting patients first, always improving and working together. If you are passionate about delivering high-quality patient care, committed to making a positive difference and enjoy working collaboratively with others, we would love you to join our team.

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast .

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include engaging fully with our comprehensive induction and National Quality Mark awarded preceptorship programme to support your transition into practice. You will have opportunities to learn, develop your skills and build your confidence within a supportive environment.

As you progress in your role, you will be encouraged to broaden your skills, take on new responsibilities and explore leadership opportunities. We are committed to supporting you throughout your career and helping you achieve your personal and professional goals.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Please note that this advert is specifically for Newly Qualified Paediatric Nurses with an expected start date between January and March 2027. Most vacancies within this recruitment campaign are based in our Paediatric Intensive Care Services. Therefore, successful applicants should have a genuine interest in caring for children and young people who require highly specialised and intensive levels of care. Enthusiasm for working within a complex paediatric critical care environment would be advantageous. There are a limited number of vacancies in the general wards as well and so this opportunity is also potentially available.
