Band 6 midwives- Acute site (Antenatal, Postnatal, Labour)

Part time or Full time

We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate midwives to join our workforce on our Winchester site. We offer excellent education and development opportunities and we are happy to discuss flexible working. We care for nearly 5000 women a year across the trust with births in both of our Basingstoke and Winchester sites, a dedicated homebirth caseloading team and a soon to open, newly refurbished midwifery led birth centre in Andover.

Unfortunately at this time we are unable to accept candidates who are applying for an NMC pin and have not yet completed their OSCE. Prior UK experience is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable for the overall provision of high midwifery standards of care and provide evidenced based woman centred midwifery care, which can be delivered in a variety of models.   The post holder will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies and user representatives.

  • Promote safe and effective practice
  • Enhance women and families experience
  • Contribute to the delivery of the operational efficiency of the service and deliver against organisational objectives
  • The post holder will provide total midwifery care for both high and low risk mothers within all midwifery environments
  • Able to provide the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of maternity care over a 24-hour period.
  • The post holder will facilitate on behalf of the team leader the development of midwifery and non midwifery staff and act up in the absence of the team leader
  • Be accountable for own actions
  • Promote excellent multidisciplinary communication and teamwork
  • The post holder will generally have a home base (unless multi site working is preferred and agreed) but at times of escalation may be required to undertake cross-site working to meet the needs of the women across the service.
  • To participate in hospital on-calls (currently 4 per year)

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/degree level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development.
  • Provide evidence of personal and professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • NIPE practitioner

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in all clinical settings.
  • Able to make appropriate clinical decisions in view of recent research, informed choice and individual circumstances.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to demonstrate conducting annual appraisals.

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates competent in dealing with obstetric emergencies in hospital and community setting.
  • Demonstrate competence in: perineal suturing, cannulation, homebirth, epidural top ups, caring for women birthing their babies in water and in the home/birth centre setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Has participated in research and audit.
