Primrose ward is our short stay general surgical unit caring for both emergency and elective, general, colorectal, UGI, and urology patients. Working as a Ward Sister requires great leadership skills, encompassing communication, collaborative working, innovating ways of working to ensure staff and patient safety at all times.

This post involves providing day to day leadership to the Nursing team within the acute surgical ward, acting as a role model at all times, whilst ensuring patients are receiving high quality evidence-based care.

Acting as a  clinical expert, you will have a wide range of surgical skills and knowledge. You will adopt a highly visible and accessible approach for patients, their carers and relatives, and all staff within the MDT alike. You will lead by example and help to empower staff in their personal and professional development.

There is an expectation to work closely with the medical team and other agencies, to ensure patient care is given safely, promptly and appropriately, encouraging proactive discharge planning, and promoting maximum independence for patients

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a team demonstrating effective communication, and working collaboratively with colleagues inside and out of the ward, encompassing the CARE values.

To provide a service that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual and to understand what our patients need and be adaptable and responsive.

Support and develop Junior Staff, Role model and lead the way to excellent care

Be responsible for ensuring safer staffing levels on the ward

  • Post Registration Qualification within Specialty or equivalent
  • Relevant 1st degree or equivalent, or working towards
