Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To deliver a complex package of high-quality healthcare including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients with various needs – including orthopaedics, care of the elderly, and neurology. To provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers, and relatives. To deputise for the Lead Therapists as necessary.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

Physiotherapy degree or equivalent
HCPC registration
Documented evidence of professional development in relevant areas

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria

Post-qualifying experience in a range of areas including; acute, rehabilitation, elderly care and neurology
Ability to assess patient conditions, establish the patient’s problem, formulate and implement a treatment plan.
A clear understanding of current NHS issues, professional standards, CPD, clinical governance

Desirable criteria

Experience working in the NHS at a Band 5 level
Experience supervising therapy assistants and/or students
Experience working with amputee patients

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

Ability to communicate complex and/or sensitive information requiring empathy and reassurance
Knowledge of barriers to communication and strategies to overcome them
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, other health professionals, patients and their relatives/carers
Ability to present information accurately, written and oral, in English
Clinical problem solving ability in complex cases
Ability to prioritise patient workload and delegate work to other team members

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
