Podiatry Trainee Advanced Practitioner

Band 7

Job overview

We are looking for a Band 7 Trainee Advanced Practitioner Podiatrist to work as part of East and North Herts Podiatry Service.

This is a new role for our service and you will progress to a Band 8a on completion of the course. HCT has a number of people in AP roles so there will be support for you.

This role will involve attending university one day a week with the rest of the training provided internally and on the job. The role will involve working across the 4 pillars of care- Clinical Practice, Leadership and management, Education and Research.

The successful applicant needs to either be a non-medical prescriber or be willing to undertake training to become a non-medical prescriber (supported by us) as part of the Advanced Practitioner training.

East and North Herts Podiatry service provides 4 care pathways – diabetes, at risk, nail surgery and MSK. This post will mainly be working with patients within the diabetes care pathway. The successful candidate will work within Acute based MDFT clinics, in patient wards and community clinics. We work very closely in partnership with East and North Herts Trust to provide seamless care across both acute and community settings.

This is an exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Podiatrist.

The base for this role is negotiable within East and North Hertfordshire but will include working at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City and Hertford County Hospital in Hertford.

Main duties of the job

During the training period of this post, the post holder will increasingly learn to apply advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making within the East and North Herts Trust and HCT community podiatry, as well as other relevant healthcare environments.

During the time as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner the post-holder will work under decreasing supervision & with increasing independence to act as an autonomous practitioner, exercising expert clinical practice in assessment, diagnosis, prescribing and development of medical treatment plans for patients with complex presentations and multi pathologies.

The post holder will increasingly learn, with decreasing supervision required, to be an expert resource, provide a visible clinical profile, have both advisory and clinical input into patient care within in-patient units and outpatient units; this includes provision of expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues, and ensuring the maintenance of clinical excellence.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team including medical and allied health staff to (with supervision) manage medical conditions and to plan and implement treatment for illnesses.

As a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, this post-holder will provide learning to other staff and students within the clinical area.
